Chit Funds are an age-old mechanism of saving by the poor and those having no access to the formal channels of finance in India. It has largely been running as an under-belly to the economy the world over. However, chit funds are neither fraud nor a ponzi scheme. author detailsAnkeeta Gupta is teaching as Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. She has completed her LL M in Business Laws from National Law School of India University, Bangalore and BA LLB (Hons) from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi. She has completed a course on ‘Intellectual Property Rights and Information Technology in the Internet Age’, conducted by Indian Law Institute, New Delhi; two-months duration courses on ‘Intellectual Property Rights’ and the ‘Arbitration and Mediation Diploma’ conducted by the WIPO. She also holds a diploma in Cyber Crimes from Government Law College, Mumbai conducted in collaboration with the Asian School of Cyber Laws.
